The month of Esphand, a celebration of women’s freedom
Sepanta:
Esphandgan is a beautiful festival held on the 5th of Esphand, the last month of the Iranian year, and celebrates the approach of spring. In the past women wore multi-colored clothes, sang, and danced on the streets, and threw flowers all day long. In the evening they went in masse to the temples to pray. It was a festival that symbolically acknowledged women and their rights. The sight of them dancing on the streets and throwing flowers to the crowd created a happy, carnival-like atmosphere in the cities.
