How is the lower birth rate affecting women /Society?

Marie Fouladi:

In Iran as in neighboring countries, families tend to be patriarchal. However this tradition has been shaken by a fall in the birth rate. Traditional sexual mores dictate the dominance of women by men and young people by their elders, but when women attained a certain degree of equality, they were consulted more about family planning and took a role in deciding how many children they would have. For this reason younger women are now often in a different situation than their mothers and elder sisters. With only one or two children, they are dominated less by men. This has shaken one of the main axes of patriarchy.  Furthermore the trend towards smaller family units has diminished the dominance of the young by their elders…
